DELMER DARION BROSSIER

West Midlands-born production duo Oliver Jack and Tom Lenton (pka Delmer Darion) announced the fruits of their labour yesterday with the stunning first taste of their forthcoming debut album Morning Pageants. Setting the tone for the rest of the highly conceptual album, lead track 'Brossier' was inspired by the true story of Martha Brossier, who faked her own demonic possession in the late 1500s. Masterfully manipulating orchestral samples and industrial textures, 'Brossier's heavy atmosphere is both beautiful and devastating at the same time. Providing some insight to the complex piece, Delmer Darion said: “For decades in the US, Christian groups were terrified of something called ‘backmasking’, which is where you hide reserved messages in tracks. They claimed rock bands were sneaking Satanic messages into songs - like someone hearing the line “Here’s to my sweet Satan” in “Stairway to Heaven”. What made it worse is that, after people started accusing bands of doing this, a new generation of bands actually did start putting reversed messages in their albums. Like the Slayer album which starts with a voice chanting ‘Join us’ in reverse! Anyway, there may or may not be some backmasking in “Brossier”...” Morning Pageants will be released by the ever-excellent Practise Music on the 16th of October. -Holly Mullineaux
